A retrieved memory does not return to storage unchanged. For a brief interval after recall the trace is labile; what re-stabilizes need not be what was retrieved. We study that interval, and the conditions under which a memory can be moved.

engram
engram represents the field as a structured knowledge graph. Concepts are joined by signed, mechanistic relations: one pathway requires, gates, produces, inhibits, or modulates another, and many relations are conditional, holding only in a given state such as stress or arousal. Because each relation carries a direction and a sign, a single control point can be perturbed, activated or blocked, and its effect propagated through the graph to ask what changes downstream. A model of interacting receptors and circuits becomes something you can reason over, not only read.
Every claim is held to its evidence. Each relation records the studies that support or contradict it, weighted by species and method, and resolves to an honest standing of established, emerging, or contested. The animal-to-human translation gap and the open replication debates are kept as first-class disagreement rather than smoothed away.
Retrieval is by meaning, not keyword. A question asked in ordinary language is compared against the concepts, the documents, and the primary literature by semantic similarity, and returns the passages and papers that actually bear on it. Any paper can be read paragraph by paragraph, each passage related both to the wider knowledge base and to the rest of that paper.
